Can I export a BOM from my drawing or assembly as an Excel file?

I have an assembly that has a drawing. The drawing has a BOM on it that is not an Excel based table. Is it possible to get a list of partnumber, description, and quantity of the items in my assembly exported into a format that Excel can read?

Select the BOM table in the drawing and go to "File" "Save as" and select "Excel (*.xls)" from the "Save as type" drop down. Give it a name and location.

The macro referred to here didn't generate usable excel files on my machine. SW 2008, Excel 2007.

Carrie,

When working with SolidWorks Table based BOMs, you'll need a couple of extra steps versus working directly with MS Excel BOMs.

RMB on a BOM and choose "Save as template".
In the "Save as type" drop down box, change to CSV.
Open the file in Excel and modify/format to your liking.
