2008 rendering

Ok, so I upgraded to 2008 SP 2.1 (as it turns out I did this about 3 hours before SP 3 came out) I was on 2007...

I'm working on a sectioned view of an assembly and did some fairly nice renderings in 2007. When I brought it into 2008 it seemed to be fine (we won't discuss the Toolbox bolts...)

Now, when I render in 2008 I'm getting transparency on some parts that shouldn't be there. Not total transparency, but some - enough to see other parts behind the part in front. Unless I'm missing something (which is highly probable) this should not be happening.

Any ideas??

Ok, so I go into one of the parts that has unwanted transparency and I delete the appearance and redo it with 2008 stuff and now it's good. Ok, so now I have 50 other part files to play with...

I can't wait to get to training!!! (Not that rendering is part of the basic class, but at least its a start.)

If someone can tell my what the issue is with this, I'm still very interested.

  It's hard to know without actually seeing the parts but I suspect it's not really your fault. The way materials overide each other in part and assembly files has changed in 2008. An assembly that rendered 100% correct in 2007 may render incorrectly in 2008 from no fault of the user.

    There's more than 1 reason why I don't like change....
    
    Anyway, updating the appearance only made the transparency harder to see - it's still there, just not as transparent. Can I post a jpg here or do I need to post a zip?

        Cool - now I'm trying to edit the appearance of a particular part. The RV appearance works great in the default config, but I cannot make it work in my section config (if that made sense). Let me try again:
        
        I have an appearance (material and color) assigned to the part - that's it. No scene, no walls, nothing but material and color. If I am in the default config it looks great. I "choose" to use the same in all configs (at the bottom on the edit thingy in the appearance editor). Then I click the check mark and go back into the section config - no change - it isn't what I want. So I try to edit the appearnece while in the section config. Forget it. No matter what I do I cannot get that section config to use the appearance settings that I want - it just sits there and stays the same...like some sort of non-violent protest against workplace productivity...I might delete the bastard and end his protest!
        
        Anyway, I'm not clicking where I need to, or I'm clicking where I shouldn't...

So I'm checking the Help file and see the familiar part about clicking the checkbox "Display Solidworks Colors in Photoworks."

Ok - so where is it? I know I checked that box in 2007, but I'm not seeing it in 2008. Is it gone or hidden?

Also:

How can I change the "default" material?
How can I detach ALL materials from ALL configurations and have it stay that way?
Why does a part "appear" one way in the part file and a different way in the assembly file - even after deleting all the appearances in the assembly file it won't change to match its own part file?
How can I have the assembly file DO NOTHING on its own with appearances and have it take its info from the part file?
Why doesn't the Help file tell me any of this stuff? (Or, if it does, why can't I find it by searching it?)

EDIT: Removed angry rant in this area - will redo it later in another discussion....

Anyway, I certainly do appreciate these discussions - without the help from everyone here (in all the forums, not just photoworks) I don't think I'd ever get any work done at all!!

  Ok - learned something - my "transparency" wasn't that at all - it was reflection...
  
  Kind of funny because I complained about LACK of reflection with 2007...
  
  Now here's something weird - in between detaching materials, cussing, and crashing, rebooting and doing it all again, my right click menu changed. Earlier today when I did a right click at the top of the tree, then went down to Appearance, I didn't get many choices. NOW, when I do the same, I can select the old color or texture or the new callouts thing...

  Ok - figured that out - with Realview turned off, you get the "old" style appearance menu...and now I'm off to see if I can make that work to my advantage...

    Nope - I got nothing...
    
    My last batch of rendering was done using the "Solidworks colors in Photoworks" and they came out fairly nice.
    
    I upgraded yesterday...and now we want more renderings. I can't find this option in 2008 SP2.1, and I can't make it render the SW colors...
    
    Can someone please drop me a hint on how to do this?

      This has been removed removed in 2008. You do have the option to render using the SolidWorks physical materials in the PhotoWorks options dialog.

        Can I change the colors of the materials in that particular part - or do I have to do something in the assembly? Or do I have to save them as custom materials (or something like that).
