We are having lots of suspected problems which I point to the network, but our IT guy is adamant it is nothing to do with the network.
Similar problems we are having include crashing on opening files, crashing saving files, and window searches on network drives taking 4 times as long on one computer as another identical computer on the same switch (apart from slightly slower processors which doesnt make a noticable difference on searches).
Oh, it's the network. In some way shape or form. If SW detects even the briefest interruption in communications it will go all Chicken Little.
Now, which end of the network is at fault is anyone's guess, but if it's happening on multiple machines, something at the hub/switch/server end is more likely. We recently got our IT department to move all network connections for SW machines to a dedicated 1Gbit switch. This improved both speed and reliability. If I had my way, these machines would be put on a dedicated IP subnet with the server to ensure that only SW related packets were moving to and fro.
Same Virus scan settings? Same network cards?
