how to show right qty in BOM but won't insert into assembly

Hello All,

when I want to show qty in BOM as a large number, I won't insert so many same part into assembly. So I will only insert 1 part into assembly. but how I can get right qty in BOM.

There are a couple of ways you can do this. If you have Solidworks 2008, then you can specify a quantity at the component level by opening the component file, going into custom properties, creating a quantity property with the value set to the quantity you want and then setting the quantity property assignment control at the top of the dialog tab to the property you created. This works well for amorphous parts like solder where you have a partial or volume quantity, but it does make that setting permanent for the part and the quantities are agregate. So if you set a custom quantity to fourty and have two instances of the component inserted, the quantity in the bom will be 80.
The other option is to double-click the quantity cell in the BOM and type in the quantity you want.
