You may create a Description property for part and assembly
files by dropping the "File" menu and selecting "Properties" and
the "Custom" tab. You may also set the Description property when
performing a "Save" for the first time or doing a "Save As."
We use a part or assembly file's Description for its drawing
title and the file name for its drawing number. SolidWorks seems
taylored to such a system.
If any items in a BOM are Configuration specific, then they
should also have Description defined as a Configuration Specific
property.
Custom properties for each part/assy file must be entered. In
each part, go to File/Properties and select the custom tab, select
Description from the pulldown. If you use configurations to
represent families of parts...you can use the config specific tab
to apply the description to each config separately.

New to SW,
When I bring a BOM into my assembly drawing, the BOM has 4
columns. ITEMS, PART NUMBER, DESCRIPTION, & QTY. The
DESCRIPTION column is blank. Am I suposed to fill in a discription
somewhere in each SW prt doc.?
Thanks
Mark
