Will Cosmos Motion benefit from multi-core hardware? Will
there be a reduction in solution times with added processing cores,
or is the solution process for problems not multi-threaded?
Yes, I have one motion simulation that took well over a half hour to solve. It inlcuded 3D contact between 8 balls and their respective detents on a combination of 3 separate parts. I noticed the solve time jumped dramatically when I setup the 3D contacts on these items. My machine at work is pretty weak, but I will be upgrading soon and was interested in knowing how much the solution prcess will take advantage of multi-core hardware. It appears that 2008 anmd 2007 doesn't take advantage. I will submit an enhacement request as mentioned and I encourage everyone else to do the same.
For example, the biggest time consumer with the solver for most users is with 3-D contact. It seems a perfect candidate for parallel processing since you should be able to compute interferences in parallel.
