24" monitor recommendations.

I looking for some help...

Currently, i'm in the process of updating my users to dual-displays. The only problem is the monitor we bought last year isn't avaiable. This is a problem because it was a good monitor at a good price.

So now I'm looking at 24" monitors. Anybody out there have some pros and cons of different models?

Hard to beat this price/size/performance in an LCD monitor. Highly purhcased over at newegg and has gotten pretty good reviews. Would be nice for CAD work. 2 of these would be really nice...

  I use 2x20" HP2065 monitors, its excellent, however i use one screen for SW and one for email/word/excel etc.
  
  If you only use one app at a time go for the 24"

    Currently I have a few users setup with (2) 20" LCD's and they love it, as do I. I just haven't seen or used a 24" LCD and was wondering what other's user have on their desks.
    
    Maybe I go with 1 24" WS and 1 19"...??

      I currently have one Samsung SyncMaster 244T on my desktop and it's been great. I have had no issues at all. The clarity and color are excellent right out of the box. I will never again not be able to work with a 4:3 CRT.

I currently use a Samaung 22" SyncMaster mainly for SW and a 19" for everything else. Really like the real estate from the 22". The 19 is fine for all other apps.

  Thanks for all the posts. I'm getting a 24" DELL ultrasharp for testing and see what the group thinks. I'm still leaning towards a 24" and a 19".

    I´m using 2 x Samsung Syncmaster 245B connected to a Quadro FX 3450.
    
    My opinion is that both monotors should be of the same size because its easier to move the mouse between the monitors. 24" inch are great but 22" will do nearly the same work if the price is critical.
    
    I use the main monitor to SW and the second one for help, internet, Adobe reader and so on.
    
    I have used 2 monitors since nearly ten years ago and thats one of the most powerful investment to do!

      I am also running the samsung 22" SM225BW, but I ditched the hp 19" L1940T in favour of a hp P1230 CRT!!!
      
      Why you may ask! and the really sinple answer is that the hp can get to 2048x1536 Resolution, with my current G card, in dual mode.
      
      Great when printing out screen shots or drawings, when using sheet metal parts, as the lower resolutions, items show through, behind the sheet metal parts.
      
      I would go for the 24" as the main screen, only if the resolution is higher than the 22".

22" are about the best value / screen size as there is usually a big price jump up to the 24" monitors.

  One of my co-worker just bought a 24" Soyo at OfficeMax for $299.00 and it looks fantastic. Native Res is 1920 X 1200 compared to 1680 X 1050 for most 22".

Newegg sells a 24" Westinghouse that is bright and vivid. The only drawback is that it has an HDMI interface rather than DVI so a converter is needed. I have 2 of these on 2 different systems with no dead pixels and the color and crispness is fantastic. You can't beat the price either

  I played with a middle of the road flat monitor and was not happy at all. I am used to my 21" CRT at 1600 x 1200 and the flat one was not as sharp. I could see a very definite decrease in clarity and accuracy vs. my CRT. I gave it back after a week as I am not willing to give up clarity. How do any of the ones out there that people are using compare in that respect?

    I went out and bought the Soyo for myself at 299.00 and found it to be far surperior clarity and sharpness wise to my older Viewsonic CRT. The CRT was starting to get fuzzy over the entire screen but especially in the corners. The LCD is consistant over the entire screen even when the screen is set to an all white background. The main caveat is you must run the LCDs in their native resolution if you want decent quality.

      My 21" Dell CRT was beginning to fade so I replaced it with a Dell 2001FP 20" LCD, I didn't notice the LCD being less sharp. LCD's have a different look to them then what CRT's do. I now prefer the look of LCD's and have 4 various Dell UltraSharps on the computers I use.
      
      1. A good LCD screen
      2. At native resolution
      3. Connected to a digital (DVI-D or HDCP) output and cable.

        Jagged lines are what I remember, not smooth straight lines as on my ViewSonic G220fb CRT monitor.

        You are correct that there is slightly more jagginess (a new word?) with the LCD. I just compared a 19"LCD and 19"CRT with the same model running the same resolutions and the difference is almost not noticable. What I like is that the LCD lines are much crisper than the CRT. I do however think text on the CRT is more readable which means I have to zoom in a little more with the LCD but overall a still prefere the LCD. Everyone is different though and personal preference is all that really matters.

        We bought Viewsonics last year and I bought 2 24" DELL ultrasharp this year.
        
        I set them up a dual displays and if you tile a document so it spans both screens you can see a HUGE difference in color and clarity.
        
        THe DELL Ultrasharp is the way to go...!! I haven't looked at any of brands yet to compae the difference.

        I just received a spanking new Acer 24" wide screen LCD monitor to replace a burnt out 21" CRT on my desktop at work. I perhaps naively thought I could just hook up with a DVI cable and be good to go. This is not the case. Everything on the screen is out of proportion and the 1920 x 1200 resolution has a rapid flicker.
        
        I received a disk in the box that has some useless manuals and some software called ADM. My question is do I need to install this additional software to use the monitor?

        Once you get the native resolution set for the monitor you will/should notice quite a difference in clarity and performance. My home computer when I made the LCD switch here a couple of months ago I had to locate a patch to my older GFX card so it would support the 1440X900 (IIRC) of my new 19" widescreen LG.
        
        The drivers are probably on your CD, but there may be a later driver that is usable through SW or the video card manufacturer that would offer the LCD resolution you need.

Gary, Thanks for the reply. I did get this sorted out however and everything looks great. I ended up using the VGA cable due to the flicker with DVI at 1920 x 1200.

  I just installed a Gateway 24".
  
  1200 tall resolution (or higher) is the only way to go.
  
  I had a Dell 22".
  
  900 is a waste, would rather have my old 21" CRT (1600x1400)
