BOM UPDATING

How does one get the sw-bom to automaticly update. I'm finding that I have to actually edit the table to get it to update. Ideally I would like it to update when ever the drawing is re-opend or updated. I have the options set for auto updating.

Anyone have any other ideas?

What version and service pack of SW are you using?

A crtl-q rebuild will also rebuild your BOM.

    Can you post a small couple part assembly and drawing file. Make one up that does not work for you. We will take a look and see what the problem is.
    
    You have to zip the files into an archive before posting.
    
    You are using the SolidWorks BOM with Custom Properties defined in your part/asm files????
    
    Have you looked in the System Options under Drawing, Performance, Assemblies and External Reference to see if there are any settings that may not be correct and are preventing the model from rebuilding.

      Yes Anna, I am using both the SW bom and custom properties and like I have stated, the bom will not update until I actually open the part and edit the table inside the part file(s). I'm sure it's something I'm doing or not doing.

        We have a terminology problem here which is not helping you get the answers you need.
        
        Your problem is with your Design Tables and how they are updating for you in the parts and assemblies.
        
        BOM's are distinctly different entities in SW and are used on the 2D drawings.
        
        I do not use design tables often enough to be able to give you insight. But my initial thoughts are yes you must open the lower level parts and make sure they update (Ctrl-Q) before you will see those changes in the top level. I could be wrong though.
        
        Hopefully those that are more versed in Design Tables can give you a hand.

        I sure do appreciate the time you have spent to help me out.. Yes I guess that is the problem. The funny thing is, the geometry changes physicaly, but the table data does not--- until I (as you said) open and update the design tables in all lower level parts of the sub assembly.
        This is very time consuming on LARGE assemblies =(
        I'm wondering if there isn't a macro that I can run to make sure the design tables are up to date.... hmmmmm.
        
        Hopefully someone out there will have the answer...
