Not quite sure if this is the right location. Back @ SWW, Solidworks Apps for Kids was announced. When will this be deployed? Have a couple of teenage grand kids that would be interested.
It certainly did appear to be a good idea. I just searched for "Solidworks apps for kids" on google and was taken to a site that has signup areas - seems to be available.
Thanks Jeff, I did the same when it was announced. Basically SW sent an email stating that they would keep me informed as to when the product would be ready. Was hoping for the grandkids to have a project for the summer.
Got this today
Thanks for your interest in SW Apps for Kids! We will start Beta with those who registered very soon.
I will speak with the team and see if we can ensure your names are added to the top of the list!
Did this app ever get off the ground? I can't find anything on it.
We might be able to get some information from Sal Lama - I know that Chinloo has been showing it off, and there has been some stuff in the blogs.

Are these two on Hawaii Five-O?
They are one of my favorite SOLIDWORKS "Power Couples"
(They both work for SOLIDWORKS - Chinloo is doing a lot with Apps for Kids, and I can't remember Sal's exact title, but he is a WEALTH of SOLIDWORKS knowledge - not to mention the fact that he is one of my favorite SWW presenters!)
Since you have a personal connection with them perhaps you can get them to participate on this forum. We need more voices from the other side of the wall chiming in to shorten our learning curve and provide some definitive answers.
That's why I tagged Sal Lama - I don't believe Chinloo participates in the forums.
Marie Planchard had a great blog post last month - http://blogs.solidworks.com/teacher/2017/06/solidworks-apps-kids-print-young-makers.html
I agree, I'd like to see more of the employees taking an active role in the forums - the ones that do are AMAZING!
Thanks Todd - I love SOLIDWORKS Apps for Kids - especially Print-It - Little kids just love creating their shapes with stickers and making a "cube" - of course 3DPrinting is a wow factor - but not all kids have access to a 3D Printer. Missing Lincoln.
Thanks for the question (and thanks for the ping, Todd). Apps for Kids is most certainly off the ground. If you’d like to check it out, you can go to www.swappsforkids.com and click “Sign Up” in the upper right hand corner of the page. As you know, we announced Apps for Kids at SolidWorks World 2016. At that time, we were in private Beta, which meant any interested participant’s sign up request went into a pool that we gradually invited throughout the year as we progressed in our development efforts. At SolidWorks World 2017, we gave an update on our progress and announced that we were now in public Beta. That means that all private Beta sign ups have been invited and we are now able to immediately process all future sign ups. …So please help the children in your life sign up and they’ll be able to immediately start using the apps! J In terms of where we’re heading… We are hard at work improving the apps we’ve released and are building even more. We make updates to the site every two weeks! Thanks again for the interest!
Absolutely! Sorry I've not been as active on the Forums lately. Will make it a point to be more responsive. As Sal mentioned, we are in Public Beta, so everyone can sign up to use it. We do require an adult to help sign up for children under 13. Please remember that the public gallery within the app environment is open to all account owners (who are mainly children ages 4-14) so if you are exploring the apps yourself as you share it with the children in your lives, please choose to share models that you feel are appropriate to that age group and will inspire them to create great things! As you and the children in your life play with the apps, do share your feedback with us. We are constantly working on improvements, and would love to hear from you and make this the best set of apps we can make for our future designers. Thanks for the interest!
When will we be able to export the model so I can 3d print it at home?
I think that's already incorporated now, I have to verify that tonight.
I remember reading about it coming, guess that did not happen yet..
Show it and \Game are still listed as "coming soon"
From Shape It or Style It you can go to Print It. you need a model to print so that is why we added it only when you are in one of these apps.
From Print It, choose 3D print (this will be enabled once the processing of the STL has completed) and you can then save to an STL and download your 3D printable model.
I went through the sign up process last night and introduced my 8yo daughter to it this evening. She was modelling away quite merrily earlier. A hit already!
