I'm trying to take a sheet metal part, unfold it, add material, and fold it but as soon as a make the boss extrude the bend lines go away. It only works if I make a cut. Is it possible to do what I'm trying to do, perhaps another way?
Here is an alternate way to create the part. I tend to model solids then insert bends. For me, it works better in most cases.
The reason is that the extrude is crossing the bend regions. Solidworks likes to treat that extrude as a solid piece of material, with no bends. I would recommend making your base flange larger (either change the size of the initial base flange extrusion, or add a boss-extrude in the formed part) and then doing an extrude cut in the unfolded part.
Thanks for the replies. I was hoping there was a different way to add material and keep the same bends but I'll redraw the part.
Charlie,,, It looks as though you cannot add material across the bends in the unfolded state. You can, however, cut material across the bends in the unfolded state. I added another base flange in your part and extended it on the side where you wanted to add your material. This is a direction 1 and direction 2 base flange off your profile. Then used your sketch sketch geometries to duplicate your cut and to cut the extended portion back to where you want it. The two Cut list parts (it is now multi body) are on on top of each other so you can compare them. My base flange is yellow. You can select my part and flatten (withe bend lines). Or roll up above Fold2 and check it out. You can delete your body if you like or just remodel it (with cuts only.
