Greetings,
I could really use some help with this problem. I have an assembly, which looks like this:
When I look at it in the parent assembly, it already looks worse:
Note that the thread on the jack are now showing, even though it fits entirely inside the vertical tube! Is this a bug?
Now, if I create a Camera and look at my top-level assembly through it, this is what I see in "Shaded with Edges" mode:
Note that the ledger head now looks transparent, but only if looked at through a Camera.
And now turning off the edges in "Shaded" mode:
Now the ledger head is missing entirely! None of the faces on that body are shown, which is also the way it appears in the animation that I am trying to produce.
I also noticed that other sub-assemblies that I did not author have the same problem. For example, note the transparent lifting bar:
Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Val
In SolidWorks you can apply appearances in many ways. Usually it is to the Part, but it can also be to the Body, or even a single face. Then, in the assembly, you can override the part appearances. You can also have different appearances in each configuration. You can also use Display States to switch between different appearances in the same configuration.
I would start by opening each part and looking at the feature tree (expand it to show the appearances column). This will tell you if a specific appearance was applied to a single feature. Also expand the Bodies (and Surfaces) folders (at the top of the tree) to see if a different appearance was applied.
There is also a Transparency column. I think you will find this is where most of your problems are coming from. Just click on the icon to remove transparency.
My habit is to apply a material to the part, which sets the basic appearance (e.g. steel). Then click on the appearance icon (at the very top of the expanded feature tree) to get more specific (e.g. matte steel).
If you find other, unwanted appearances in the feature tree, right click and choose 'delete appearance."
Finally switch to the Configurations tab and see if there is more than one display state. Maybe choosing a different display state will get you want you want. (You can always hope!)
Then repeat the above steps for each assembly.
