On a drawing, is there a way to make a diametric, trimetric, or isometric views link to parent? I want to set up views so that if the configuration changes in the parent view all views update to the same configuration.
Hello, Yes the way you link a view's configuration to the parent is to right-click on the projected view, select properties, then in the configuration information section change the drop-down box from a named configuration instead to "Link to parent" Hope this answers your question.
Thanks Eric, I already tried that but for some reason the "link to parent" option is not available for the diametric, trimetric, or isometric views. Apparently, it is only available for projected views and diametric or trimetric views are not "projected" AFAIK.
I am not sure how to project a diametric or trimetric view from a standard orthographic view, only know how to insert them in manually. If you drag from your front view diagonally up and to the right that should give you a projected isometric view and then you could have it linked using this method. I will look into trying to find a way to link two separate model views and/or setting an existing projected view to dimetric/trimetric.
My apologies I searched for an option that would let me do as you wanted but I couldn't find anything. Seems weird that there is no way to project a dimetric/trimetric view.
For the isometric view, if it was inserted as a Projected View off of the parent, then it should update if the parent configuration is changed.
I can't figure out any way to link diametric or trimetric views to a parent view, but someone else might know how. If not, and if this is something you need often, you might want to submit an Enhancement Request to add the ability to link an independent view to a parent.
Glenn, So linking only works on projected views not diametric, trimetric, or isometric views?

As Eric Blankinship said, you can project an isometric view off of a parent, so it will be linked. That's what I had done in the screenshot I posted above. I also don't know of a way to project a diametric or trimetric view from a parent, or to link one that's inserted independently. Maybe he can find a way. I couldn't.
This is not a possibility at the moment, so you may want to raise an Enhancement Request for that via SOLIDWORKS customer portal.
And as I think, may be a macro can be made to update all the views configuration in the active drawing to the selected/parent view configuration.
I tried to find answer to this, but seems like it's not yet implemented?
Deepak Gupta has made this macro Macro: Link Child View to Parent View Configuration , but even it isn't able to link a view created with "Model View" to a parent view that is present at the drawing.

Mikko, it is not possible (as of now) to link views created using "model view". Though macro can b made to make sure that all views on the sheet are referring to same configuration.
