I'm with you Jason, just finished up the survey. 2016 was the last stand for me. I've crossed the line and took a look at the "other guys on the block". If SW doesn't get their act together....quickly....I'm going to pursue my investigations so that before subscription renewal comes up, I can make an informed decision on a direction. The 2015 release was a nightmare (crashing) until the SP's started coming out. The changes in 2016 are a deal breaker, especially after the great subscription may lay at the end of 2015. They forced everyone back on and then released a hideous version (IMO) .
..good to know.. and curious at the same time seeing the forum numbers recently,.. out of the ~138K registered forum users... with the ~90K views on the original ui thread and ~36K on the sp3 UI thread (whatever those mean?) ..and only ~4k active users in the forum... with...~1K participating/contributing users... we are only a ripple of the whole.

The views are cumulative for the same users. If once checks that thread 1000 times, it will register as 1000 views.
I didn't like the article.
Yes, there was some interesting info, but I felt it a bit condescending to those of us who were, let's just say, less than satisfied with the interface changes. Many such as myself have were at first almost brought to a halt as I readjusted to the new interface. I'm getting used to it and appreciate the new colors added in, but still am working at a slower pace than before. Time is money, and this new interface takes more time.
I speak not only for myself but for my employees and my students.
The excuse, I believe, is corporate spin; that they were doing it for color blind users. This seems to be a newer spin on the reason for changing things other than "we made a mistake". I could be wrong. But I thought the original talking points was to improve the graphics performance.
There was no justification in the article as to just how many SWX users are in fact color blind. I would be surprised if it were 5-10%. And therefore, punishing the rest of us is unwarranted. There is no accommodation for other handicaps! Why has the colorblind suddenly taken the spotlight? Maybe because who can argue with accommodating the handicapped? They could have also said that they did it for puppies and kittens, and then we would really have no argument left, because you never want to argue against the best interests of a puppy or a kitten.
But either way:
1. Beta testers said NO.
2. New interface OPTIONS are welcome, but it needs to be a OPTION. Throwing away what in part has made them wealthy is foolish.
3. I wouldn't mind seeing several interface options. How about all black and white? How about obnoxious fluorescent? How about a pink-leaning color scheme for those that want to explore their feminine side? Then we could choose. After 20 years, they don't have several different themes available?
And please remember, the disappointment voiced in the forums is only a scaled representation of the sum of users. Of the dozens and dozens of users I know and for the most part agree withe what I've said, none come to the forums to voice their opinion. I wish they did, but they feel, for some strange reason (sarcasm emoji here), that they won't be listened to.
I think the whole colorblind argument is made up.
They are doing some BAD damage control with that excuse, making the UI complainers looking as they don't care about other disabilities.
For example UG/NX had a colorblind palette for modelling entities (solids, curves, surfaces) well before the nx series come out.
The UI could be a small portion of a bigger problem for a real color blind person.
Think about the inability to properly differentiate different colors in an assembly.
it didn't work for me.
I just loaded SP3 SW16 on a Win10.
Was able to go classic, which is oddly half the battle. Now I have a mix of icons everywhere. Some make me feel monochromatic blue blind and some are normal. (joke)
Saw Amee's article, did exactly as described. tried a few other ways.
I can see a blue SWPART.ICO and a yellow one. I assumed they represent their own collection of icons.
I tried both the *.ico files in the location field of that software she links to.
What a pain.
Hi David,
Take a look at the plan for SP4: Update on UI changes for SOLIDWORKS 2016 SP04 and SOLIDWORKS 2017
You can also try it out now in Beta 1.
I was finally forced to "upgrade" to 2016 and am unable to install SP3 yet. Ugghh...this is terrible and could have been easily avoided. SW did it backwards. They should have added a "colorblind" option and left it pretty much alone for the rest of us. The #1 priority for a new version should be a seamless transition. We'll find the new options if we want them.
Another enhancement is that "Center Rectangle" and "3 Point Center Rectangle" now use the same icon, which looks similar to the old 3 point icon. I just looked a a screen shot from before loading SW 2016 and that was definitely not the case before. I was wondering why I got the incorrect rectangle a couple times this morning.
Well done, Amee!
yep, the scars are real!
