I am trying to visualize a vitrine made of cherry wood. looking for pattern and color definition.
Try searching through the Visualize Cloud Library, link available below. You can search online to see what we have, and then follow the image below to drag and drop desired Appearances directly from the Visualize Libraries Tab into your project.
Visualize Cloud Library
Using Visualize for wood grains is tough, I found it much easier to apply all of your wood grain finishes in the SolidWorks part file, rather than try to use Visualize for adjustments.
In SW you can very easily edit the wood grain mapping, sizing, color and grain size.
Great tip John.
What if we want to use a different wood grain outside of the SolidWorks PV360 appearances? Is it easy to make custom ones?
It's super easy to make custom appearances in Visualize. We also have 25 premade wood appearances available in our Visualize Cloud Library:
In SolidWorks you can take any high dpi jpeg and apply it to any surface. I haven't messed around a lot with Visualize when it comes to wood grains, but enough to see there are more steps involved. We all kind of go in our own comfort zone and that may be my issues, I have done it for years with SW, now it's completely different with Visualize.
The same technique John mentions is possible in Visualize too. It may be slightly different than doing so in SolidWorks but it certainly shouldn't be any more difficult....you can build your own appearances from scratch using a image of your choice (wood grain in your case) or you can replace the color texture of an existing appearance from the Cloud Library as Brian mentions. In the attached example i used the default Mahogany from the Cloud Library in the Wood section.
Hope this helps
