Hello Bob, eDrawings does not support opening of STEP files. However if you do a Google search for eDrawings RapidFire, there is a free viewer you can download which will allow you to open STEP files.
2017 eDrawings now supports step files as well as inventor files.
Make sure you download the correct version, download "eDrawings Viewer, plus support for SOLIDWORKS shaders data"
(NOT the default)
Hello! I first downloaded the default version and installed it on my laptop. I can open the .stp files on my laptop, but when I'm trying to open the same files on two end users' laptops, I get the message "Error reading file". It does not help, if I download and install the "shaders data" version.
I do not have any other CAD SW installed on my workstation. I have installed earlier some other viewers and I don't know if that is what makes the difference on my laptop. Any ideas what could be the problem? Unfortunately I'm not allowed to share those .stp files.
Replying to myself:
The instructions in this thread solved the problem.
I do not know why, but installing this package helps.
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable SP1:
The OS is Windows 10 Professional.
