I have an PC with an AMD 8350 8 core with a radeon R9 360. I dont do much with solid works yet but does solid works use GPU rendering or CPU rendering? And does it use cuda cores and which video card and brand would work well with it?
SolidWorks mostly utilizes your CPU and RAM , these are the important peripherals if you want SolidWorks to run well. That being said it also uses your graphics card although in a more minor role, such as RealView graphics vs. Open GL.
That being said your Radeon R9 is not a supported graphics card for SolidWorks so , although SWX may install and run, you may get some glitches or crashes due to running unsupported hardware.
SolidWorks does not make use of CUDA cores.
Check out this link for a list of requirements to get a good idea of the hardware you should look at.
Hi Mark, if you're currently on subscription, you should check out Solidworks Visualize as well (SOLIDWORKS Visualization Products | SOLIDWORKS )
It can utilize Hybrid rendering (CPU and GPU) if you have a supported graphics card I believe.
"SOLIDWORKS Visualize does not support non-NVIDIA graphics cards for rendering acceleration"
AMD Firepro W8100 work with Solidworks Visualize
