I think more info is required. Which is the Y-Axis?
Looking at the picture it looks like a drill bit on a hand drill. So is the goal to rotate the drill bit.
So my assumption from just the picture would be is that you are trying to a series of explode steps along the x axis where series of parts just come out to show how you assemble things. Or are actually trying to show something else?
Some basics on motion - there are three levels - animation (presentation only), basic motion (some physics to motion without any results) and motion studies (engineering results like velocities - most accurate - takes more time to solve).
So the motors are applied to each component. It is a great enhancement to have one motor move more parts. We don't have that now. so there a few workarounds - use mates to lock all parts together which move together or use subassembly to group all parts as one rigid body, etc.
What have you tried so far?
You can use rotary/linear motor in the motion study and apply to rotating/moving parts
