Smart Dimensions?

Running SW2016SP3ev...

Recently I'm having trouble with Smart Dimensions in part and assembly sketches. Often when I try to dimension the length of an "angled" line (neither horizontal nor vertical) I'll click the dimension along the length of the line, but then the Smart Dimension decides to do a Horizontal dimension (or Vertical) instead. This happens even if I right click to "lock" the dimension along the length of the line segment.

This happens every once in awhile.

Any thoughts - what am I doing wrong, or whatever?

It should work if you keep your pointer close to the line, as soon as you move it away it will snap like you mentioned. So click on the line and just move the pointer so it's off the line and the dimension should show up...

  Generally that is true - stick close to the line and it will all be fine. This seemed more of one of those "tweaky" things. I worked with it one way or another but it was just one of those little annoying things that made a tiresome job a bit more so.

    I don't think that as bad as SW remembers the last line that you dimensioned from, that is more annoying to me anyway..
    
    Say you have a box and you dimension from vertical line to vertical line, then select one of the horizontal line, and it dimensions 90 deg...
