I am getting the error message above when adding a spring connector - compression and extension - using concentric cylindrical faces. Using SW 2016 SP 2.0. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi David, see the following solution from the SolidWorks Knowledge Base:
Why do I get error message "Faces not sharing enough overlapping projected areas" when trying to use spring connector between concentric faces?
When using spring connectors between cylindrical faces, the faces must be one inside the other, and not with an axial offset.
If you need to define a stiffness between coaxial cylindrical faces with an offset, then please consider using Pin connectors instead and enter axial and rotational stiffness.
So are the faces you are trying to connect concentric?
I haven't used Simulation for a while, but yes that's what I would surmise. It seems that if you want to connect concentric cylindrical faces of the same diameter, SolidWorks forces you to use a Pin connector. I'm not exactly sure why this would be, perhaps it's easier to solve in the background?
