The only way to do FEA properly is to make sure your geometry is clean. Go back to the model and remove all gaps, slivers, and interferences. Then when you set up to run make logical contact sets with no penetration. It will take longer but you will get better results.
Garbage geometry = garbage FEA
James is right. In a regular CAD model, there are gaps and there are interferences (like threads).
Many of us will create a unique configuration for FEA. in that configuration, we remove threads, fix gaps, and add all sorts of wacky features to make the model work properly in FEA.
Be sure you can do some classical calculations as well to verify your results. Too many people trust the software without knowing the first thing about what it's doing and the errors that can easily occur.
go to evaluate option check for interference detect..
if any interference seen it will be listed there
check each one clear it for no interference
