I'm trying to create an edge fold on the part shown below without cutting out on each side. Approx 10mm deep by 15 degrees - just a small kink to round the edge off.
Can this be done? Do I need to look into the forming tool to produce this?

Don't think even forming tool would be helpful. Can you add relief and then later use corner weld or loft to fill the gap?

A forming tool is required to make this feature.
It should be easy enough.
You cannot make any type of protruding geometry in sheet metal parts without a forming tool.
Alex, are you talking about a HEM?
Are you trying to do this with an actual part or in CAD?
For the actual part you will need to employ some type of forming tool to make this. If you stamping any feature now, even the overall profile before bending, you should be able to incorporate this feature into that tool. In fact if you do that then you should be able to maintain the top view profile that you need (the edge will not deformed in, like it will be if you try this after the part is blanked).
In CAD, after you cut the notch out, including the desired radius at both ends, you can extrude the profile from the middle of the feature (notch) both ways until you meet the turns. Then sweep that profile along the turns ninety degrees at both ends. You can add the bend radii before extruding the profile or after the extrude and sweep operations, your choice. I am sure that there are other ways to do this that may or may not be simpler.
This is just a fold-over or hem. Flange length minus half a bend deduction for the length. If SW won't let you use the 'tear' use ii anyway.

He is attempting to create a small raised area at the edge of the metal. Not a tear.
It requires a forming tool.
It can be done, but I've not figured a way of unfolding it properly.
Flatten surface. Not perfect but I don't know your needs.
