I am looking to use an equation driven curve, but I'm not sure how to get SOLIDWORKS to handle the y(0) - See the attached image for the curve in Desmos.
Any ideas?
I have been keying in the initial value instead of y(0), but it just doesn't look right.

You should add a global variable named Y0 and then use it in the equation.
The equation should be typed as follows:
("Y0"^2+(x^2+tan(45)^2))^0.5

This is much easier than editing the equation every time I need to change y0.
(As a self-professed fan of Global Variables, I am incredibly embarrassed that I didn't think of that.)
The curve is still not looking correct, but now I know that it is the formula that is wrong - The curve in SOLIDWORKS matches the curve in Desmos, matches the curve on a TI-89, . . .

Thankyou @Eyal Siryon. Just what I've been looking for. I had no idea it was possible. I tried adding a sketch dimension, it worked when I went through a global var. Needed a rebuild but brilliant Thanks again
This also let me know where I have been going wrong with creating variables. I have not been putting the name in quotes "variable". I have always gotten an error and found some other way to do things. This will help.

Even easier than typing... just click!
Click doesn't always work when building equations. eg if you want to do "D1@Sketch1" > "D2@Sketch3" I do "D1@Sketch1" + "D2@Sketch3" then edit.
CTRL-C and CTRL-V also speed you up no end
