Would like to be able to use trim as normal, but instead of deleting the chosen sketch segment, it turns it into construction geometry, maintaining all relations.
That is all. Thanks.
I'm not opposed to the idea, but in the meantime I guess you know you can use the "Split Entities" command to break the sketch line and then turn one portion into construction?
Yes. But very clunky and inconsistent. Quicker usually to just trim it away and re-create as needed.
I would REALLY REALLY like this now. Creating a skip pattern along a non-regular profile edge, using convert entities for the boundaries, chopping up into segments, want to just delete every other section. Works for a while, but about 80% through, then the remaining sections become undefined.
So now I have to go back and manually insert split points, and then drag them to the intersections they won't jump to automatically, except for a couple, mysteriously, that will allow you to split on another sketch entity, just so I can leave the line segments there, and just turn them into construction geom. 3 minute job now takes 15 or 20, including fixing messing with it, rebuilding when it hangs.
So yeah, have to do it the hard way. Thanks.
Have you submitted this idea as an ER? It's a good idea.If you have, post the SPR number (not the ER number) when or if it is issued, so that others can add their vote which will escalate the enhancement prioity.
No. Have not had time to register over there. Seems I need a new login?

The same login information you use here should work. You just need to enter it again.
Seemed to already exist, but then said I created it. Not sure what happened over there. Email confirmation gave me an ER number. In any case, good to see it as an SPR. Thanks for the nudge.
I would really like this feature. Is there any time when it wouldn't be superior to the current way? It's almost always better to be able to see all the geometric steps leading to the creation of a sketch than to have them hidden away by trim, unless things are too cluttered already.
I most often find myself trimming stuff when using convert entities. In this instance I don't want it to stay as construction geometry as it's already implied by the visible lines. I am not against this feature but I would hope for a toggle to be added.
I agree, this should be optional for sure, and never set as default by SW, only by user.
Excellent idea - If they could get that working then, how about using it for line selection to use the line format features...........
Chris I do like the idea very much, propose it and I will vote for it. Thanks
Already did. SPR #675242
Still not sure if I created it, or if it already existed, either way, it's there.
So this is what I'm talking about:
I want to change the design from the radius to an angle, using the line that's making a sort-of-chord across that radius (need to add material for strength. I can't delete the radius, it's related to about 50 offsets from an InContext sketch in an assembly (we're working on a prototype, stuff is changing a lot right now, can't be bothered creating independent parts at the moment). I need to turn the 2 tangent lines off the radius into construction, for the short little bits before they hit the radius, but they need to stay, to keep all the relations correct. If I use split lines, 1. I can't always make the split right on the intersection point. It's hit and miss. 2. When they work, it sometimes loses the original relations, and breaks everything.
Hence, this request. Trim to construction.
PS: OK, split lines actually behaved well in this case. Often it does not:

I would like this feature added to my trim options.
Apparently, this feature has been added to SW 2019. I got the email that the request was implemented last month. I've not had a chance to try it out yet, need to have IT install 2019 in our virtual test area. Looks like they are having issues with constraints not being maintained in the transition to construction geometry, but they're working on it, anyway, so that's cool.
