Design Library Parts

I've got some assemblies from other co-workers that used alot of McMaster-Carr parts. Is there any way to put those parts into the design library without deleting them from the assemblies and then inserting the design library components. I don't want these parts revision managed when checked into PDMWorks.

yes, as long as they don't exist in the vault.
move library parts to desired location.
then add search paths to solidworks (tools>options>file locations>referenced documents)

if the library parts in question are already in the vault (revision managed) you have a problem.
the library parts in question must deleted from vault in order to be recognized as non-revision managed components (parts/assemblies).

Also, I can't remember if the Tools > Options > Search File Paths settings go through the sub-directories as well. You may have to specify each path in the design library where you copy these parts as a separate path for SolidWorks to look in. Hopefully someone who knows for sure can chime. But everything that Kenneth said is what I've had to do in the past.

    Ok. That seems to be pretty easy. Now for another question. How should I setup the permissions to make best use of the library.

If you're talking about the Design Library, typically I've seen this set up as read only except for a few people to update. It's really up to you and your personnel. PDMWorks doesn't care since the files aren't going to get moved into the vault. It will simply reference them - which at least allows you to do Where Used on these parts.

hi...

I have 5 lic of sw off prof 2007, any body can give me suggestion about manging toolbox part and design library part ?
Should All users use same toolbox data & design library in one location ? I mean we put toolbox & design library in a server, then all user access to them.

Please share your experience...
