I have searched high and low, but can't locate an installation guide for solidworks workgroup pdm vault. I found the enterprise version (requires SQL Server, etc.) but can't find the workgroup install instructions.
Do I first UNINSTALL the current edition (2014 SP5) of workgroup PDM Vault?
Or just run the installer for the updated version (2015 SP4) over top of the existing installation?
Besides having a backup in advance, any other requirements?
Yes, you can just install over your current version, no need to uninstall.
Just checking - you are referring to "workgroup PDM Vault" not the newly-available SW PDM standard , correct?
Thanks Deepak, on page 73 I see the following and have questions on steps 3 and 5.
1. I found the setting in the VaultAdmin program to lock the vault. Its on the "Vault Settings" tab.
2. A Backup is performed by first stopping the "SolidWorks Workgroup PDM Server" service and then making a copy of the Vaultdata folder.
3. Step 3 contradicts Jeff Holliday's statement above! If I perform an uninstall (Windows Vista/7/2008/8/10 now calls this Settings >Control Panel > Programs and Featrues BTW) will I lose my Vault configuration? What configuration files, registry entries, etc., contain the configuration settings? Or do I need to screenshot every option appearing in the VaultAdmin tabs?
4. I have a separate installation forum question/answer which more completely describes the installation process. This document's over-simplified description is hardly adequate. See (How do I download Solidworks Workgroup PDM Vault 2015 ).
5. I can't find a SolidWorks Task Scheduler. In VaultAdmin I see on the "Vault Management" tab options to "On vault startup: Validate vault" or "On next startup: Rebuild vault" or "Rebuild Now". Are these needed?
6. Same location as in item 1.
Following step 3 will not delete your custom settings. These are stored in the vault itself, not in the WPDM install. You will not be replacing the vault unless you are in fact moving from WPDM to the PDM Standard now included with SW2016. Revising the WPDM vault files to the new version is something that is best left to your VAR to handle.
Task Scheduler is a separate tool that is installed with your SolidWorks installation. It is not in the vault admin package.
I would suggest checking "on vault startup: validate vault". This may add a little time to the startup but it will provide less chance of a problem.

Confirming: No this is not an upgrade to 2016 PDM Standard. Just a 2015 Workgroup update.
I don't have a SolidWorks Scheduler tool on my PDM Vault server. I searched the folders in "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" for anything at that that looked like some tools, but don't find anything useful. Do I need to "update the workgroup PDM files in the vault" as the SW_Installation_Guide (page 73) says? If so, where to I find this SolidWorks Scheduler tool? I don't have it on my PDM vault server, which is 2013 Sp2. Is it new to 2014-2015 versions and will it be installed when I finish my 2015 SP4 workgroup PDM Vault installation?
Here is where you should find it . It has been included for many years. You do not absolutely need to use it. All it does is open the files and save them into the new version so they open quicker the next time - just the same as manually opening/resaving.

I would definitely suggest saving a copy of the vault just in case anyway. As you found, shut down the vault server service and then just copy the vault folder to another location for safe keeping.
