Hello, local distributor mentioned that there is no SP for student version of SW. How come?
because it's a 'free' version. and it's usually released when new paid version comes, so it's latest of previous version - i think
It's true like Wojciech Paterski says. However there seems to have been made an exeption on that rule of thumb this year. The student downloads that are available, are 2015 SP5 since probably December 2015, most likely to support W10. However you need to use that student website to download, you can not "check for updates".
Hi Richard, could you please let me know the link to download 2015 SP5? I created an account in the student portal and entered the serial number which came with the SW Education Trial Academic Year 2015-16. Under download, I see a lock icon. So, I cannot verify if I could download a localized version of 2015 SP5.
You can find the Student Design Kit Download Request Form here: SOLIDWORKS
Because it's without support, you can not download via the customerportal.
Usually it's SP2, as in Deepak Gupta's second link.
Thanks. So, in general, Student 2014-15 = SW 2014 SP0, Student 2015-16 = SW 2015 SP0, Student 2016-17 = SW 2016 SP0.
Am I right? If there is no automatic upgrade, can I manually download the SP and apply to the student version myself?
If I could upgrade from Student 2015-16 (SW 2015 SP0) to SW2015 SP5 due to the kind exception this year, I would be more wiling to buy Student 2015-16 and then do the upgrade.
I would be less willing to wait to buy Student 2016-17 if there will be no exception because of the color issue with the icons.
I have Student 2014-15. How is the stability of Student 2015-16 (i.e. SW 2015 SP5) compared with Student 2014-15? I read that there are lots of bugs in 2015 but during the evaluation period, I don't recall having issue.
Check these two post explaining the theory of student vs commercial versions.
