Costom Property Help

Hey Guys I need help setting up our templates I need the custom property for the originator or author of the part file, Author works but it only works until somebody else takes ownership and checks the part in. It is probably right in front of my face but can't see it!

Correct Answer

There is no Drawn by "stamp" when using the linked logged in user property in PDMWorks. This one is meant to update as users check in/out the different files. You're going to have to create a normal custom prop that you update manually in the model.

We are using the "DrawnBy" property. This works for us.

  Hey Flemming,
  Is the drawn by that you are speaking of tied into the vault log in or just SW? What I'm trying to accomplish is when somebody creates a part the drawn by is vault driven by log in, so if I go over to someone else's machine and log in to the vault everything I create will have my (createdby or drawnby) In the drawn by field on the drawing with the drawn date. I have the date as created date which works fine.

Neal - The default property in the PDMWorks for this is Author. You can go in to the VaultAdmin and remap this to any custom property you want - createdby or drawnby. Then make sure that custom property is called out on the drawing template and you're good to go.

  Yes, I have done that ($PRPSHEET:"Author")and it works fine what the problem is as soon as somebody else checks out the part and drawing for Rev. they check it in and it over-rights it to whoever is checking it in. I guess what I'm looking for is something like the date ($PRPSHEET:"SW-Created Date").

  Sorry for the necro on this thread but why did Solidworks still dont have such a features......
  
  I'm experiencing the same issue as Neal and still haven't found a way around it.

    And still, a community waits.
    
    I've admitted defeat on this one and we've just gone back to manually entering in data for who created a file.
    
    The issue comes when you're taking a project from the coarsely-modelled "development" stage to the "manufacturing" stage, you find that there are large holes in your data as not everyone is diligent in keeping their info entered.... it'd be SO EASY for SolidWorks to auto-pupulate the "SW-author" field in SolidWorks from the Windows Logon username it's not funny.... C'mon SolidWorks!
