Project > Configurations > Wire Styles...
Multiple add
I would like very much to create a wire style that represents our 42 conductor cable (21 twisted pairs). This would of course apply to our MANY other types of multi-conductor cable as well. I can of course draw a single wire at a time, but if I were to do this for a 400 conductor wire (which we do have) then I'd be doing this for a very long time.
Solidworks Electrical apparently allows me to create a style with 6 conductors and no more using the default wire types. If I try to add a 7th conductor it tells me "Cannot add wire style to "F50" of the numbering group "0". All the possible types are already present."
So I would like to add another 100-200 types of wire per our internal standards for LV signals, PS signals, HV signals, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. So I would like to add new wire types such as "LV+", "LV-" and so on.
How can I do this?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Caleb,
I came across this recently and after looking into it I found that it is not currently possible. In Electrical 2015 you can add a conductor to a multiwire style and then change its type to a duplicate type before adding another, this lets you add as many as you want and avoids the "duplicate type" error. In 2016 however this is no longer possible, when I spoke to a SolidWorks representative about this they informed me that this is intentional. I've raised an enhancement request for this issue, but in the meantime you'll have to find another workflow. You could potentially make use of a macro to bring in short lengths of all the wire types you need and then draw the path by continuing from these wires with the single wire command. Obviously you'd need to set the single wire command to draw the same number of lines.
Hope this helps,
Patrick
