It depends on what version of Windows/System you have. If you
have a 32bit system then you will just need the first DVD; if yo
have a 64 bit system you will need DVD #2. Just insert the disk and
follow the installation manager.
Right click on My Computer and select "Properties". On the General
tab under System, you should see your OS listed there. If you don't
see a reference to X64 here, you are running a 32 bit OS.
I am running Windows x64. Is it possible to have SW x386 and
x64 installed on the same machine at the same time? The reason I am
asking is I like the speed increase and memory usage of SW x64 for
most of my work however we use NetMeeting regularly and SW x64
doesn't support NetMeeting.
Look at installing Virtual PC 2007 free from Microsoft. This will
allow you to run a 32 bit version of windows simultaneously inside
of the x64 OS. In the 32 bit virtualized OS - you could run an
instance of Net Meeting. This would not require a re-boot. You
would only need to switch back and forth between an application
running in the real time host OS (SolidWorks x64 in Windows x64)
and the application running simultaneously in the virtualized 32
bit OS. Virtualization in the windows world is a little new and
will bring some neat things to the end users. Check out Virtual PC
2007.
Unless it has been changed, the SolidWorks Installation Manager
will not let you install SolidWorks 2008 x32 on a Windows Vista x64
machine.
There have been people who have over rode this by using Microsoft's
Orca tool to modify the .msi file to allow the install. As you can
imagine SolidWorks does not support this and you can probably
expect not to get any help if you have issues and need to call tech
support.
We all expect that SolidWorks will support x64 Vista in the future.
Just haven't heard any info on when that may be. Wouldn't be
suprised if it was SW2009 before that happened.
How do I find out if my computer has a 32 bit system or a 64 bitsystem?
