Photoview materials / appearances randomly change themselves on some parts

I am trying to create some renderings/video clips of an assembly using Photoview. I'm running SW2014 for the record. I have gone through and applied custom materials to all of the parts, but two of the parts will not retain their appearances. Sometimes when I save the model and it rebuilds, or if I edit a material on another part, or if I hit play in motion manager, those two parts will drop their applied appearance and switch to a completely different color. It is not because there is a transition or keyframe in the animation (I have checked multiple times) and I have tried applying the appearance every way I know, removed appearances and re-applied them, etc, but nothing seems to help. I feel like this is not the first time I've had this issue, and its much of the reason I don't use Photoview often. Is there any way to make an appearance "stick" to a part? I cannot render my animation because it drops the appearances of those two parts every time I try to start it.
