We have a card variable "Description" used in both the drawing and part cards. For some reason the part card fills in but the drawing card does not. Any help is appreciated.
The variable is setup wrong. For every file type you can have only one identical "block name". For instance you have $prpsheet twice for drawings, the one for sldprt and sldasm is useless, only drawings have $prpsheet, also see S067887 of the knowledge base.
You should (at least) read this part of the help 2016 SOLIDWORKS PDM Help - Displaying $PRP and $PRPSHEET Drawing Annotations in SOLIDWORKS PDM Data Cards
Do you have the attribute under the variable filling sldprt, sldasm, and slddrw extensions?
This is a shot of our drawing card. The other fields populate as expected.
This is what I have in our variable
Is there a reason for all of those other blocks? (Description, DESCRIPTION, PART NAME, PropertyTagImage) I'm wondering if one of them is "cancelling" out the information. What does your part card look like?
The Document Info tab is the same for both cards. The other blocks you see are for AutoCad 2d drawings. Not sure where the TagImage came from.
Do you have it set to update all configurations in the card editor? (if you don't use configurations) I have our drawing card set to read only and update all configurations. It gets driven by the part, we have to change the part description if we want to change the drawing description.
Yes, it is set to update all configurations but is not set to read only.
The odd thing is this used to work in SW 2014 but now it is clearing out the "Description" field in the drawing card.
Well I'm stumped then. The last thing I can think of is that a transition is set to clear the info. I only say that because I have ours set up to clear the rev description when the part first gets checked in. That variable is a stop in the workflow if it's not populated. I had to do it for parts that went through copy tree....
When you save a SolidWorks file do you have the description field shown under the file name in the Save as window? For some reason there is a dll in SW 2015 that keeps getting unregistered and when it does that description box goes away. It also turns out that whenever you do a save as on a file it clears the description field. I wonder if because EPDM is doing a save as if that dll is missing it could be clearing the description field.
If I do a save as on a part or assembly I see the description box but no when doing so on a drawing. The strange thing about it is it works fine on the part/assembly card but not on the drawing card. This also occurs when creating new parts & drawings from scratch.
I stand corrected I do get the description box when doing a save as on a drawing and it is empty.
Is there a fix for this?
