what setting do I need to change when solidworks is telling me that a file I am trying to import is above the 1000m modeling limit?
You can't get around the 1 kilometer size limit. If you can somehow scale the import file before you bring it in, then it might fit. Can you text edit the file to change the units?
This be something new because I have never had this problem. I asked one of the guys in the office who is still running solidworks 2015 to try and open the same file and it opened up just fine in his solidworks 2015.
I have asked the reason for this limit several times from SW. Never had a good answer. BUT I have recently built 3 or 4 Field Arrangement lodel with the largest Spanning over 4 Km ! It tricky but does work.
1.Create an Over all GA Assembly
Create Ga Assemblies, say 2 - 3 and 4.
Slide them in to the original giving a gap mate of 900,000mm or 900m
you can work on these separately but can NOT overlap on part into another so be careful what you place on the joins. SW asked me 2 years ago HOW I did this. I took the fith amendment on that
I don't know, but I'd be willing to bet that there have to be upper and lower size limits in order to assure that any SW part works with any other SW part. The max is 1000 m, the min is .0001 mm. This is a factor of 10^8 10^10, and it starts to approach the ability of the software to accurately solve the equations necessary to position the parts--you start to get ill-conditioned matrices.
What is the extention of your file which you want import it in solid works
It is a STP file
If you are trying to import a STEP file then there is an SPR relating to this exact issue - it's also been fixed for SW 2016 SP2
Hope that helps!
Many days ago i have this problem when i want import stp file is solidworks.
I imoprt stp file in other program such as mdt or catia then save it with the new name and then i import the new stp file withsolidworks . this metod fixed my problem
