I need to simulate the residual stresses obtained by contact between the tool and the specimen. The outer diameter of tool is larger than the diameter of hole in the specimen. I need the contact between contact surfaces can be separated.
I would try those:
1. Shrink fit contact (statics, the tool is modeled inside the hole)
2. Statics with large displacement option on, and move the tool inside the geometry
but I think that using SOLIDWORKS Simulation Premium would be advised.
Your best bet is probably to use non-linear analysis. Linear analysis works under the assumption that once loads are removed, stresses go back to zero - no permanent deformation and no residual stresses.
