Two things:
Which version of Windows 10? SolidWorks requires Pro or premium versions of an OS.
SolidWorks 2015 isn't compatible with Win 10 until SP5. Confirm which Student version you're running: 2014-2015 or 2015-2016. If it's the former, it's not compatible with 10. SOLIDWORKS System Requirements | Windows and Mac | SOLIDWORKS
Im curious about this, Education 2015-2016 is 2015 SP2 am I right it? Meaning students will have to wait until next schoolyear.
Im slightly confused about any fixes, tried several forum threads. The upcoming semester I will need simulation.
Windows 10 Pro is so sweet on my Precision, am I doomed to go back?
Thanks
You can download and use SolidWorks 2015 SP5.0 with the SDK Serial number. It works, I tested it.
Contact your supplier for download links... I think that you should prefer this way.
Obviously the school is my supplier and they say its optional to download SP5.
I just dont get it, i can only down 2015-16 from the one student access form, all I get is an .exe that starts the innstall manager for SP2.1
So guess Im back to Windows huh?
It wont even open in Windows 10
You should do downgrade your OS to Win 7 / 8.1 or upgrade your SolidWorks to version 2015SP5.
We resolved this issue with our customers, that we prepared new SDK DVD´s, which includes SWx 2015 SP5. Then the school "customers" can use SWx with Win 10.
SDK 2015-2016 = standard installation of SolidWorks 2015 SP0 - SP5, Your school should contact your SolidWorks supplier..
That is all.
I have Window 10 Home and Solidworks 2015 Student runs fine. It is just not supported by the team if you have problems.
Is your version of Windows 10 64bit?
Solidworks 2014 was the last version supporting 32bit. If you upgrade via the download from windows 7 and it was a 32bit, your windows 10 version will also be 32bit even if your CPU is 64bit. So if your windows 10 is 32bit and you are certian you have a 64bit CPU you will have to do a full install and make sure you select 64bit when install the OS.
Hi,
It will work in windows 10 if you have SP5. I contacted Student support at Solidworks (not VAR or school) and they gave me a link to download SP5 for a short time. I did and it worked. Anything before SP5 is not Windows 10 compatible.
If you get a warning message that if a certain Microsoft update (a KB number) being a problem, make sure you do not have it installed. If so, uninstall it. Also, you need to be logged in as an Administrator.
HI Mario,
try compability mode, and I would contact your teacher to help you get in touch with their VAR and they can troubleshoot this issue.
Cheers!
