I am pulling parts out of the tool box and saving them to be used later, my question is I try to change the appearance but the parts stay close to the original appearance. I am trying to add a Zinc type appearance and the screws all look considerably dark.

Thank you for your input, I have tried to save the parts with a different file in the past and it still does not change the appearance. I can not find the select properties tab that says read only box to uncheck.

I can right click on the saved file I did make with the designated part number, and it does give me the option in attributes for me to un check the read-only box. I did do that and hit applied. I am still unable to change screw from a dark black to a Zinc/Chrome finish.

When you right click on the filename in explorer, there will be a drop down menu. All the way down at the bottom is properties, the properties screen comes up and at the bottom is an attributes section. That is where you will find the read only box to uncheck....

Yes I tried that as well, I am running version 2016 but have encountered this problem with 2014, and 2015 as well. I am aware that the tool box components are assigned certain attributes. maybe its something in the settings I currently have. I appreciate your help.

You can set the color via Toolbox Configure method OR remove the read only flag via window explorer and then set the required color. Save and set back to read-only

I believe tool box parts have a file attribute of read only. You will need save them under a new name. I believe this will make them editable. If not, right click the new part and select properties. Uncheck the read only box, apply, and save. The part should now be editable......
