Recently I have been doing some square routing for some hot air system in the old way. And i got a part from some mechanics workshop. I would like to know if there is a way to recreate that part in Solidworks. They made this part with some manual benders so its very crafty. bottom part is bigger. Exactly I would like to know how to do this piece of sheet in the picture (side) (no pun intended).

Sure can be created using SW, the trick is to add additional planes. Each of the side triangles requires a plane, then draw a triangle to match. Do all the modeling first then trim it and add bend relief notches, then select "Insert Sheet Metal" feature
Well it could work but as the side surface is not planar or do not have a planar surface, it cant be done as sheet metal. As far as i can get this is the result
The red surface is the one that i need and dont know how to convert that to sheet metal

I know "exactly: what you need - did lots of sheet metal in the past, there is one way to do it - If I have time I may do a side sample later

This is pretty nice, however Is there any way that the sheet metal looks exactly as the real one? or this is just as far as solidworks can possibly go?
I believe it can be done to look like the pic. I started to do it by your picture and found myself scratching my head. Of course I'm kind of slow. Took me a long time to figure out what you meant by "pun" then took me a while to stop laughing. I will work on this and see what I can come up with. Those surfaces on the side appear to be perpendicular to the floor. Is that correct?
Not per my explanation, but good though, Take a close look at the sides on Alex's picture, each of those bend lines you need to develop a sketch line for a plane, then draw individual triangles and extrude them. It is Old School, no inserting edge flanges or lofted bends, just straight up modeling...

Actually it looks like the sides had to "oil can" to accomplish that. The rear wrap looks like it is continually tapered from top to bottom. Originally I thought there might be a jog in it that I couldn't see clearly. Without jogging the wrap this could be a problem.
This is how I believe John envisioned this and if so he deserves all the credit for making me think some more about this. The side has 3 planer surfaces, thickened, relieved, then Insert Bends. Not too shabby but the front wrap would have to change slightly and the back just a tad (or possibly tack and hammer the curves) since the surfaces are flat. Between the lofted method and this method you should be able to get some ideas. Just use the SM flatten tool to see the flat pattern.

The only thing I would change is that you make your sides first and then your top and bottom. The top and bottom rolled pc would be trimmed to the side or extrude up to surface, whichever works best, that way the parts will match perfectly, except in the bend region you made need to tack weld and hammer it tight as you go........
Absolutely,,, I used Alexis geometry from his file and didn't bother to trim the front or the back but I'm sure Alex gets the idea. Also my 3DSketch1 (where the bends converge) is a point which I arbitrarily placed on the rear rolled piece edge. This point can be moved up or down on that edge and the bends will follow. Thanks again John for putting your idea out there. I'm an old retired guy with nothing better to do. Old school can be cool too!
