Is it assembly?
Eeither eliminate the geometry that is problematic (only if it is insignificant in the result), or place a local mesh refinement in that area. I would also recommend using the h-adaptive method. If you don't know what these terms are, then you need to understand them before trusting your results. FEA only answers the questions you give it - you are responsible for asking it questions that will get you the correct solution.
The question becomes are you designing the regions that are failing to mesh. I might cut everything BUT one representative joint out of the model and iterate mesh control until it meshes successfully. This mesh control and global size can then be used for meshing the whole model. I use that option in the mesh options that, upon failing, will automatically re start the meshing at some decimal fraction of the last size global mesh- to get some unattended progress(so I can do other things).
