i Am having trouble, i cannot flatten this surface or convert it to sheetmetal and flatten which i ideally need to do.
See if this works for you Craig. I probably could have used surface flatten on this but I wanted to see if I could do it in sheet metal. I used your surface loft - make a couple of 3d sketches for profiles. Turned each 3d sketch into fit splines then did a sheet metal loft. I did have to blunt the tip just a bit to get this to work. You can extend it in the flat pattern or maybe fiddle with the ends of the fit splines a tad. Your surface is still in the model (yellow). I'm going to work on this some more since it is close but not an exact match. Do you have surface flatten capabilities? Guess you do. I will give that a try too.
Thanks Dennis, yes I do have flatten capabilities. I am quite new to surfacing and sheet metal but will get there.
Here is one with your surface, my lofted bend, and a surface flatten in it. The surface flatten worked out pretty good. You can select "Flatten" from the sm toolbar and compare the two. Of course in order to do the surface flatten (or sheet metal) properly I would need to know how thick and type the material is.
