I have a weldment that is drawn in position on an assembly. I am breaking groups of parts out of the assembly to create shop drawings for fabrication. How do I rotate the part in the drawing to the alignment I want?
You can use Rotate View
You can also rotate a view with the icon on the heads-up display (at least I think that's there by default).
You might want to give "Relative View" a shot. It is fairly intuitive and you can select the part from the drawing (perhaps isometric) then pick top, bottom, right, left, etc.
if the model is skewed in relation to the default coordinate system you can correct it by redefining the default views in said model.
to do this, in the model,
select face of model you want to be "Front",
then holding the ctrl key,
select face you want for "Top"
now select "Normal To"
press the space bar,
select the "Update Standard Views"
then select the "Front" button
you're now ready to insert your "adjusted" model views into the drawing.
I am working on a weldment at the moment and making the individual drawings for all the tubes. It sure is a chore rotating each part when I bring it into a drawing. Wish there was an easier way to do it.
