There aren't any indexes on the variablevalue table for valuecache which is what you'd be searching on. Also if you search for something, say part number abc-123, then the query is actually looking for valuecache like '%abc-123%' which wouldn't actually touch an index anyway since it starts with a wildcard. If you search instead for "abc-123" (emphasis on the ") then it will search valuecache = abc-123 and be much faster, but if you're database is in good shape you shouldn't see this issue. You may want to make sure it's got a maintenance plan keeping it tidy and also you may have a problem with disk fragmentation which is common if you didn't auto-grow the database when you set it up. Stop the SQL Service and point it at the mdb file for your vault and see if that helps.
