can someone please help me flatten the part attached? We do not have SW Professional, thus i'm not able to flatten any surface from a Knit and thicken command. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!
The file you attached is a surface body without thickness.
Real world parts must have thickness, what is your intended material thickness?
Well, after a bit of effort and a few tricks - I couldn't get it to flatten at any thickness.
Edit 2: After a bit more work I got it to Flatten.
I created 2 2D sketches and projected (Convert Entities) the existing edges into new sketches.
I changed them to construction.
Added line overtop the construction line and arc overtop the construction arc.
Trimmed the intersections.
Added fillet between line and arc.
Hi Carlos,, What J did there was clever and if you don't have "surface flatten" available (it's actually SW Premium) to you that would certainly be the way to go. I did a surface flatten and saved it to another file then did an "Insert Part" in order to bring it into your file. I have my reasons for this....
You might try what J did and compare it to my SF so if something similar should come up in the future you would have that in your arsenal.
Thank you Dennis for your help! We do carry Premium version of SW2015, but maybe i'm doing something wrong, although i have been using solidworks for over 10 years, but the flatten surface ICON on my computer is grayed out, not allowing me to use it. I've followed the instructions in SW help menu, i've even sat on a number of youtube videos and I'm still not successful in utilizing the tool! I've reached out to our SW license and tech support and they've told me that it's not carried with Premium edition, only with professional versions. I'm confused!
I don't blame you for being confused. Your VAR is giving you some bad information. Flatten Surface is not available in Professional,, Only Premium and you pay big bucks for that. Have you tried doing the tutorial just for the heck of it? I'm on 2015 Professional at the moment (don't have Premium on this computer) so I can't check it. Maybe it is an add-in that needs to be checked??? I would get a hold of your VAR again and demand an answer.
Edit:.. If you are on a network are you using the correct license? I was in a situation where we had 6 licenses total but only one Premium. Who ever logged on first got the Premium.
