We had a file get over written due to the revision bumping option being disabled in the Workgroup Vault.
Is it possible to retrieve the file from a windows backup? The file in the vault is the same revision as the new one, and it is the old version that I need to get.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
The file was checked in without the revision being changed, the option for overwriting the latest revision was enabled, this has since changed. Now I would like to find out how or if the vault can recover the file from a Windows backup.
I'm sorry I don't know how to recover the file. But thank you for bringing this to my attention because I just checked and I had that option enabled too so I have disabled it.
It's not easy to recover a single file from a backup because of the nature of WPDM file structure.
2 options i would consider.
Restore the "vault" from previous day. Yes the entire thing.
or
Recreate the version and check-in.
Was this part ever quoted or fabricated by a vendor?
If so, do they have a copy?
Or does someone have it in their email "Sent" items as an attachment?
It comes down to the lesser of 2 evils.

The file is an assembly that a few changes were made to it, so this one is an in-house deal unfortunately.
We do have the paper drawing so the assembly can be recreated one day if needed. It probably won't be, but it could also be a great learning experience so this never happens again!
Our vault is over 10 gB so I wont be rebuilding it if at all possible.

How was the file overwritten? Did someone do a rollback and then check in the new version? Or did you somehow check in the new version without changing the revision?
