I'm trying to create a new vault in a specific folder in a mapped drive on the server. Is this possible or is the vault required to be installed in the root of the server?
Hello. I may be misunderstanding the question, so please provide more detail to correct me. Vaults are created using the admin tool. Those vaults are added to the archives in the location specified during the installation of the archive service.(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise\ArchiveServer\Computers\<local>\Archives ).
Local views of vaults are created using either the admin tool or the View Setup program and one may select a location for that local view - which results in a "blueberry" icon in the selected folder location.
Assuming you would like to place a local view, then I and SW recommend placing the local view in the root of the local data drive (c: or d:, typically). I think I could make a mapped drive location work, but I would not for two reasons. First, SW should not be set up to pull files across a network - with or without PDM. Second, I anticipate problems with the occasional "file not found" and busted references using a mapped drive.
Thanks for the reply. It reminded me that I got it figured out. I called my VAR and they talked me through it. I was doing it correctly, but the problem is because SolidWorks has not released the full software for PDM Standard yet. At least, that what my VAR is telling me. It doesn't make sense to me. They release everything to install it on a users machine and most everything to install the PDM Server on the network drive, but it's still missing some parts.
They told me I have to wait until approximately mid-November before the full version is released.
I'm gonna mark your answer as correct, because your information is correct, just not applicable.
Per my VAR. Dassault Systems has not released license keys for PDM standard yet. Sometime in November I was also told.
Is there any word on when we will actually be able to use PDM Standard? We upgraded everything to Pro 3 months ago so we could start testing PDM when 2016 was released but I still can't get it to work. Everything is installed but I can't create a vault.
You'll need a PDM Standard Serial number AND need to contact your VAR to have them "Activate" the PDM Standard license. This process is available to VARs right now to activate it for you. It was released in mid-November as they said.
