I have just lost the ability to assign a material to a part model. When I right-click on "Material" in the design tree, I no longer get the option to "edit material". What might have happened? How can I fix it?
Have you re-booted your computer since this started? And I don't mean closing SW and reopening it, but re-starting your computer.
I have done both a reboot and a cold boot, but neither solved the problem. I can't assign material properties to new parts, and I can't edit the material of an existing part.
One thing you can try is reload the SW settings (using the copy setting wizard)
OR Reset the SOLIDWORKS registry.
In both cases please take a back up of your settings first.
Before doing the above try/check this per SPR #: 685629
Caused by [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 20XX\General\Excel Edit Open' being set to "1" edit the registry, change 1 to a 0
XX denotes year/version.
Happened with me yesterday but a system restart fixed that.
Oddly enough, the ability to assign material to part models has mysteriously returned! My efforts had nothing to do with its return, and nobody at work could help me either. I just worked without it for several weeks, occasionally trying to assign a material to no avail.
Then one day about 2 weeks ago, right after a major Windows 7 upgrade came through, I tried it one more time, and it WORKED AGAIN! I don't know why it came back, or if (or when) it will disappear again, but for now, all is back to "normal".
