Warning Watermark Explanation

If you right click in the viewport of a model or drawing with out of date references and selection View you will see the following:

Is it just me or do those last two check boxes make no sense? If you deselect the 'Always Show Warning Watermark' then the 'Show Warning Watermark for this document only' becomes disabled (though it still shows the check mark) and the watermark disappears. If you select the last check box, and then deselect the first, the watermark disappears.

Can anyone provide a good explanation of what behavior is supposed to occur with the selection/deselection of these checkboxes?

Based on my understanding:

"Always Show Warning Watermark" This is more like a global set when you don't need watermark on anything in eDrawings.

"Show Warning Watermark for this document only" This is more related to particular document only. For e.g. you're using a document for presentation purpose and don't want the watermark to pop up but you still need the watermark for other documents.

  If this is the case, the labels still make no sense. If they are both checked, it is redundant and confusing. The label on the first checkbox should change to reflect the status of the second checkbox:
  
  Second Checkbox Status: Checked -> First checkbox text: "Hide Warning Watermark for this document"
  Second Checkbox Status: Unchecked -> First checkbox text: "Show Warning Watermark for this document"
  
  The only reason this has even come to my attention is because I have a suspicion that these settings are affecting the value returned by an API call to IEdmFile7::NeedsRegeneration.
  
  I used to see the watermark warning in the EPDM preview window. Somewhere along the way, it stopped displaying. One of my EPDM add-ins uses IEdmFile7::NeedsRegeneration and rebuilds the model/drawing if necessary. Somewhere along the way it stopped working correctly as well. Nothing is ever flagged as needing regeneration so the e-drawing previews in EPDM are always out of date. I need to do some more testing, but I am suspicious that this setting is causing problems since no changes have been made to the add-in code.

    You can correlate this to Hide All option under View menu. If you select Hide All Types, then non of the labels change to say show... (for e.g. show planes)

  Also, the behavior in EPDM is erratic. If I select the second checkbox, the watermark appears. I then select a different document, the watermark is present, but the options to turn it off disappear. If I change folders the supposedly global 'Always Show Warning Watermark' setting is no longer selected.

    That could be some internal bug and they never told me about it
    
    Maybe because I don't use OR work on EPDM

      It applies to non-EPDM stuff as well. For example, I have a simple model and drawing I use for lots of macro/API testing:
      I open the model and make a change:
      When I open the drawing in e-Drawings there is absolutely no indication that what I am looking at is out of date:
      Toss in EPDM and things only get more confusing. The preview window for the drawing is incorrect, just the image above. However, if I try to check out the drawing file, the check-out dialog knows what's up and lets me know that the drawing is out of date:
