Wire summary from route assembly

I am having a problem with Routing that I am hoping someone canhelp with. Why can I not pull up a "Wiring Summary" froma Route assembly. From the Route assembly, I can click on"Wiring > Wiring Summary" and then the box comes upcontaining the part number of the assembly. When I click opendrawing, nothing happens. If I put the Route assembly into a blankassembly I can create the 2-D drawing without a problem. Doesanyone know why? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't worry about it.
If you have existing harnesses, then just bring them into the assembly they belong in and go from there. Just know that any changes to those harnesses will be cumbersome in the future. I have maybe 4-6 harnesses that way when I was first learning the routing package. Maybe just make a note of that in the design binder so future users will understand what happened.

What version and service pack are you talking about?? I think it has something to do with the linking of the information between the harnessboard and the assembly. I have always just created the harnessboard from the assembly. Why are you trying to create the harnessboard drawing away from the assembly driving it?

  I'm sorry, I am running SW'06 SP5.0. Since I am just trying tocreate a harness drawing that is not used in the context of anassembly, I am trying to eliminate a set of relations (and files)that I have to maintain. I can recreate the problem if I have anassembly that contains a route assembly. I open the route assemblyand try to run a wiring summary from that. I want to eliminate the"empty" assembly that contains my route assembly. Anotherproblem that I am having that might help, when I have the routeassembly open only (not in an assembly) I cannot start / add to aroute unless I temporarily add to an assembly.

    Ok, I think I understand. You created the harness in a dummy assembly. Then want to add the harness to a different assembly, right?
    
    You can't do that. Found that one out the hard way in the beginning. I started using the Routing package in SW 05. The way you need to think of it is the way it will be assembled. The harness needs to be "built" in the assembly it resides in. Some of the data driving the harness comes from the assembly.
    
    Are you building the harness on the fly or using a From-To wire list?? Use the From-To method if possible. In the long run you will be happier with the output.

      I am having an easier time creating a From-To list than I washaving trying to manually enter the components. It stilll seemsthat there is an unneeded step in the creation of the harness. I amplacing my components with the System Options set to automaticallyroute on drop of flanges which then places the electrical componentinto the Route Assembly itself. Then I have the assembly(non-route) sitting there with nothing in it but the routeassembly. Krik, I know what you are saying, I did create it in adummy assembly, but I don't want to put it into another assembly. Iwas just hoping that the Route assembly would stand on its own. Iam beginning to think that isn't possible.

        Correct, it can't stand on it's own. It has to have it's assembly. That is why I assemble all my components first then add the routing in afterwards.

        I do not have an assembly to insert the harness in. Right now Ijust want to get our harnesses off of our old CAD system and intoSW with the ability to put into models when we are ready totransition. This way we can get the people here used to drawing theharnesses in SW and production used to seeing the harnesses on SWdrawings. Kirk, you have been VERY helpful and I am sorry I amshooting questions at you out of a machine gun. I just want to makesure you know that I appreciate your help and I am not just beingargumentative.
