Does anyone else experience frequent crashes when renaming a Display State? I've been irritated by this for a few releases now and was just wondering if it was only me experiencing this problem.
It's happened to me a number of times.
Not to me on SW 2014 and 2015
I've gotten crashes from renaming display states quite a bit in 2015, just got sick of it enough to search the KB and forum... apparently not much out there on this problem
As I said above, it's happened to me occasionally, but I've never figured out anything specific that triggers it, and it doesn't happen all the time. I just try to remember to save before trying.
Yeah... that's where I'm at too. I was hoping someone else had been able to identify an actual trigger, but I guess not.
I get this a lot. Trying to figure out why...
YES. Used to happen all the time in 2012. Just one week on 2015, have not had the pleasure of this crash yet.
I found it happens more when jumping from a drawing to the assembly, with un-rebuilt changes on the drawing. Even bumping the zoom a hair with my space ball can be enough for SW to think it needs a rebuild, and attempting to change the display state name crashes everything.
OK, just got this for the first time in 2015. Pretty sure it only happens if I make a change to a drawing, DO NOT save, open the assembly, create a new display state, start to rename (always in ALL CAPS, never tried lowercase), and upon attempting to click out of the text edit state of the display state name, THAT'S when she crashes.
This is not an "always" trigger, but is more frequent with un-saved work on a drawing.
Please FIX IT!!!! I've been sending this crash in through the crash dialog since 2010, I think, for sure since 2012. What's the point of the crash dialog if nothing ever comes of it?
This is important, because SW thinks there is a save pending if you just accidentally nudge a note or drag a dimension a tiny bit.
As per above, it's just done it to me using 2016. Not done it for a while though to be fair, but used to do it all the time in previous versions.
It's when you change the name of a display state using the 'slow click on the name' method. Then when you're done and you click off it, it crashes.
The only way round it is to right click on the display state, go to properties and change the name from there. But I don't always remember to do it this way.
SW please sort this!!! So simple but so annoying!
Happens every single time without fail if you have the "Update where used" check box checked. Otherwise it doesn't. No good if drawings and assemblies require updating to reflect new file name.
SW please sort this one out. Its been a pain since 2015.
Happened to me pre SW 2018 when I edited the Display State name by clicking on it, changing the text & pressing return. From memory, the solution is to change the name in Properties & click the green tick.
SW have 'solved' in 2018 by only allowing the Display State name to be edited by clicking Properties. You can press return but only if you have first clicked in the window where the part is shown. Alternatively click the green tick.

I was one of the people that replied above about having problems with it, but it hasn't occurred since updating to SW2018. Are you using a previous version?
And Mike Warren, it's true that we can no longer rename display states with a slow double-click on the display state name, but a single click and F2 still works.
Thanks for the F2 tip Glenn Schroeder I'll try to remember it.
