I have a nice small part file that is imported from a step file. If I open and save it the file size doubles. I'd rather not double the file size. As I recall, there used to be a switch that allowed one to save a Solidworks part file without adding the preview image. Could someone tell me how to do it?
Thanks Deepak. My "Store appearance, decal and scene data in model file" wasn't checked. I unchecked "Automatically scale appearance textures, surface finishes, and decals to the model size".
My "Save tessellation with part document" is grayed out. We are using EPDM so maybe I can't change that? The model remains double the size and has a bitmap image.
Do a files save as in different location and check the size.
Also do you've configurations/display states in the model?
I tried the Save As trick. It didn't work. The model has several configurations that involve suppressed mates. I've rather given up. Solidworks seems to have removed the ability to save without the bitmap. The only work-around I can think of is to save it as a step file and re-import it.
In that case make sure "Purge cached configuration data" is selected under > Performance
