This would be a big time saving function (similar function in Inventor).
Rather than going through the extra steps, every single time, of selecting the face, then finding it in the history tree and reselecting it there as an actual part.

You can create selection filter under Tools > Component Selection
Can create an display state with required component shown. Simply select and isolate them and then make a display state.

I tried creating a filter in Component Selection - doesn't seem to allow for selecting components.
This really should be just a very quick selection function in the selection filter list.
Seems strangely overlooked in the basic operation of SW assemblies.
There are 26 items of selection criteria - except, - parts or assemblies.

What are you using this for? Display States? Someone might have a way of showing you an optimal way of that work flow in SolidWorks.
This may or may not help but box selecting right to left highlights components in an assembly but all of them that cross the box. Then you might have to deselect components in the tree that you didn't want selected.
