I am trying to Thicken the surface for a Drill Side Housing model I have created. I need it to be 3mm, ideally 1.5mm on the inside of the surface and 1.5mm on the outside however this isn't a massive issue. I have tried converting it into a solid then using the Shell command but this fails as well. I think it is the curvature of the model that is causing these features to fail. I'm not sure how I can rectify this problem.
Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Luke,
There are a few things you can look for, but the primary one is radius of curvature.
You have several areas on your surface that will cause you problems with thickening.
This is just one of them as you are trying to get 1.5mm.
When creating surfaces that you will want to thicken, try to stay away from tight curvature, generally relative to your thickening dimension (also try to stay away from fillets at all, if you can, and put them on after the fact unless it's a relatively large fillet).
To troubleshoot where issues are, what I like to do is offset single surfaces and try to thicken. Another option is to try to offset your surface the amount you want to thicken. When you see something like this, you know there is going to be a problem....
